My dog is sick...

We had one that had it. She was a rescue from the Sullivan County Shelter. She had vaccinations before she came home to us, but apparently the vaccinations were given too late.
She got parvo, spent 5 days at the vet and actually beat it. Came home for Thanksgiving, and had to go back to the vet the next day, where she died of distemper.
That's one foul nasty facility.

Just got an update on my pooch:
Since 2:00 pm no vomiting.
She will continue to receive fluids and anti-vomiting meds through the night.
Vet believes that she has gastroenteritis. However, if they see much more vomiting they'll go through with the barium test (as a just in case).

Will know if she can go home tomorrow about 10:00 or 10:30 am

My parents bought several Pit Bull puppies when we were kids. I'd say at least 3/4 of them died from parvo. It's a horrible way to die.

How is the dog today?

She still feels rough, but looks better, has a little more energy.

She will be staying another night on IV fluids and meds. She vomited a few times last night despite the meds, and refused all food offered (boiled chicken, dry food, canned food). She hasn't eaten since Saturday morning. Even though she's not as bad as she was Monday morning, she's still feeling very bad (I saw her at lunch time).

Sometime during the night she attempted to burrow (a dachshund trait) but only managed to rub her nose raw & bloody (she has a little OCD).

They did more Xrays this morning to check for blockages but didn't find any. Right now they're thinking it's gastroenteritis.

My mom will go check on her soon and will take her regular food and one of her favorite treats, a bed and blankets (no she's not spoiled [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] ).

My daughter had the intestinal bug a couple of weeks ago, you know, the nasty one where both ends end up sore. Well, one week later her shi-zhu came down with the same thing. Surely the dog didn't catch it from her!!
Well, Saturday night a friend told me about her dad's shi-zhu's episode that was identical to my daughter's dog. Guess what? Her dad had the bug two weeks ago also. Coincidence?

Sounds like a conspiracy!!! lol
